[ARCHIVED] Join us for the W Park St and Main Ave S Intersection Improvement Open House

Park and Main Open House

North Bend residents rely on local roads and sidewalks that safely and comfortably guide us to our destinations. The City is considering ideas to improve pedestrian public safety while maintaining vehicular flow at the West Park St and Main Ave S intersection. We need your feedback!

On Tuesday, October 22, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. we invite you to join city staff and project partners at the North Bend City Hall for an Open House to gather feedback from community members about what works and what doesn’t work at this intersection.

In 2023, the City hired an engineering consultant to perform a traffic study and propose options for improving the intersection. In 2024, the City connected with residents and nearby business owners to understand community priorities for its improvement. The upcoming Open House is the next step of community engagement.

The project is part of the City’s planned channelization of the Park St corridor and is being funded by Transportation Impact Fees.

Potential intersection changes could include:

  • Building curb bulbs to shorten pedestrian crossing distances
  • Adding a protected bike lane on Park St to improve bicycle connections with Bendigo Blvd S bike lanes, Riverfront Park, the Tanner Trail and William Taylor Park
  • Creating a right turn pocket on eastbound Park St to southbound Main Ave S
  • Building a raised “tabletop” intersection to calm traffic
  • Installing an intersection median to restrict left turning movements through traffic on Main Ave S
  • Improving street and pedestrian lighting
  • Installing a Park St centerline curb between Bendigo Blvd and the intersection to prevent left turning movements from adjacent businesses

Following the Open House, next steps will be engineering design in 2025, with construction to occur in 2026 or 2027.
