Be prepared

  • Pick up sandbags if you are concerned about the safety of your home or business: Stop by the Public Works Department, at 1155 E North Bend Way to load sandbags, free of charge, but bring a shovel! Learn more by visiting the Sandbag Center news release
  • Teach all family members how, where and when to turn off utilities
  • Prepare for utility outages which often accompany floods
  • Learn the safest route from your home or business to higher ground
  • Plan for housing in the event you need to evacuate your home
  • Plan for a meeting place outside of the hazard area
  • Consider purchasing a pump to use to remove water in and around your home during heavy rains or flooding

What do during a flood

  • Always obey road closure signs. Please do not drive around the closures – these areas are closed for your safety
  • Never drive through a flooded area. Most cars can be carried away by less than two feet of moving water
  • Don't walk or wade through flood waters. You can be knocked off your feet by as little as six inches of moving water. Additionally, downed power lines can electrify the water.
  • Have your emergency supply kit ready to go if told to evacuate
  • If told to evacuate, do so as soon as possible. Delays or refusal to evacuate can jeopardize your safety, the safety of emergency responders, and hinder rescue efforts

EOC Open, 12.09.25
