Highly Livable

live, work and play in North Bend

North Bend is a highly livable small town and a premier outdoor adventure destination. A picturesque mountain town located 30 miles from two major metropolitan cities, North Bend's unbeatable access to the outdoors, supportive and thriving business community, and industrial zoned land available for development all contribute to making it an ideal destination to live, work, play and establish a business.

“People engage with each other, they care about their community,” shared Mayor McFarland in the 2021 Smart Communities Award video. This award was given to the City of North Bend in recognition for the adoption of Form-Based Code within the Downtown Commercial zone. The community cares about taking care of natural resources, which North Bend has in abundance. “We are folks who believe in the principles that guide our state in ensuring we’re taking care of those things while acknowledging that we are a growing society.” Watch the Washington State Department of Commerce’s video of the tour here

North Bend's job market has increased by 2.6% over the past year due to the influx of urban growth from Bellevue and Seattle. This increased residential and tourism interest provides a prime opportunity for commercial development.

employee transportation options

King County Metro's Employer Services is leading an effort to design transportation solutions for in and around North Bend to support recruitment and retention of employees.

How employers can participate:

  1. Consider establishing a Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit (like an FSA for transportation), and give employees a way to pay transit at a lower rate.
  2. Familiarize your team with the Metro Vanpool program, this video is short and very helpful. Below are other resources that can help employers and employees understand their vanpool or carpool options.
    1. Existing vanpool to North Bend - Any vanpool can add someone, because Metro will provide a larger van if necessary. Contact the driver, and if there is no response, contact Rideshare services at 206-625-4500.
    2. – commuters can register their commute and find others to start a carpool or vanpool.
    3. King County Metro Vanpool information and starting a new group.
